Beyond Mysticism — The Modern Northwest
Updated 26 days ago

Rebecca introduces Seattle Art Museum’s major Spring exhibition, which tells a broad history of Modernism in the Pacific Northwest. Shaped by our own inimitable landscape, the Northwest’s Modernist movement also incorporated influences from Surrealism, Social Realism, and Abstract Expressionism. We will see paintings by local icons Mark Tobey, Morris Graves, Kenneth Callahan, and Guy Anderson and meet less familiar figures such as Z. Vanessa Helder and Kenjiro Nomura.
