The board received the 2024 Comstock Township Department of Fire & Rescue Annual Report and approved a request from Fire Chief Beauchamp to participate in the State of Michigan Firefighter Turnout Gear Grant. The grant provides for the purchase of equipment and other safety and rescue related expenses for on-call, part-time, and volunteer firefighters. Superintendent Hess announced the approval of the Township’s Support Emergency Operations Plan which not only sets forth response procedures but also manages cost and reimbursement arrangements for emergency related expenses. The Township Hall’s new sign will be on it’s way pending some further consideration of lettering size and location. The board did not approve the first reading of ordinance 540 amendments offered to streamline and update park policies, moving it ahead for another first reading at the June 17 meeting. Members of the board specifically objected to the allowance of alcoholic beverages at special Township events but the remaining revisions were agreeable. The ordinance when adopted will explicitly prohibit use of tobacco and cannabis products as well as weapons of any kind on park premises. The ordinance also sets the correct opening time for Robert Morris Park as 9AM.
