In episode 1 of Eastern Lore, we explore the Chinese Lantern Festival: its history, traditions, and how we celebrate it today in China and in Kalamazoo. The show is hosted by L Sam Zhang, an author, illustrator, and Executive Director of the nonprofit Kalamazoo Chinese Academy; and Alex Maile, an engineer with an interest in Chinese culture. We are joined by our guest, Promise Zhang, who's an American who fell in love with a Chinese man. She went on to study in China and is now a language teacher at the Kalamazoo Chinese Academy, where she also serves as the Activities Director.
