AIFF 2016 Filmmaker TalkBack: Women Make Indie Movies

In Filmmaker Magazine, director Katy Chevigny recently pointed out that independent film, particularly documentary film, has been a relatively supportive sub- culture for women directors. Dawn Porter (Trapped-AIFF16), in her keynote at the IDA conference last year, wondered “Is Better Than Horrible, Really Better?” Women documentarians have rarely made the Academy Award Best Documentary shortlist. Tangerine Entertainment producer Amy Hobby (What Happened, Miss Simone?), an exception to the rule, is among the filmmakers who will discuss the current state of women artists in the indie and mainstream worlds. Moderated by Debra Zimmerman, Executive Director of Women Make Movies. Produced by the SOU Digital Media Center.
