Environmental and economic factors threaten a way of life along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Though locally sourced seafood is a food staple for many in the south, smaller catches and toughening conditions cast doubt on the future of the industry.
The supply chain connects Mississippians with efficient and timely access to healthy and safe food. Disruptions to the system can come from many directions and their ripple effects can threaten food security for all.
Getting to food sources can be a challenge for the young and the old. When people can't get to the grocery store, the community finds ways to bring food to the people.
When Clarksdale’s only full-service supermarket closes, residents find themselves with reduced access to nutritious food. Facing long drives out of town and lacking reliable transportation, many turn to other community-based programs to fill in the gaps.
