The Board began with the swearing in of its newest Trustee , Yvonne Payton. Helping Hands Wellness Center was celebrated as a valued School District Partner. This year the partnership provided health care resources like vaccinations, health care and counseling throughout the community. Theresa Hawkins, the Clinic’s Executive Director accepted the honor with members of her staff. Superintendent Slade updated the Board on the Woods Lake transition and progress of Summer School. Summer staff hiring is under way specifically seeking truancy officers and teachers for an upcoming KPS behavior intervention program. Purchase agreements included the bond funded demolition of the Chime School in the amount of 280,000 dollars. The demolition makes way for the construction of a central kitchen facility for Kalamazoo Public Schools. The first day of school is August 26, 2024. The next Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2024.
