Planning Board Chair Taylor Yates and Director of Planning & Building discuss the main parts of Belmont's MBTA Communities Multifamily Zoning Plan, which has been in the works for more than two years; and will be presented for discussion to Belmont's Special Town Meeting in November 2024. In order to address a general housing shortage, and especially a lack of more affordable housing, the "MBTA Communities Law" requires Belmont - along with 177 other communities to develop and present a plan to expand multifamily housing, especially near MBTA stations and stops.
