Voices Uniting Everyone | Featuring Professor Christopher Portillo and Elliott Roethlisberger

“VUE” – Voices Uniting Everyone – is hosted by Larry Davis, Vice Chancellor of Belonging and Purpose at Austin Community College and Dr. LaKisha Barrett, ACC Biology Associate Professor. In this episode, Larry and Kisha learn about workforce training at ACC with Welding Technology Professor, Christopher Portillo, and current student, Elliott Roethlisberger. Christopher discusses his start as an undergraduate at Princeton and how he quickly came to learn that he did not want a career in finance. After discovering welding while working on offshore oil rigs, he was hooked and Chris came to ACC to earn his welding degree. Now a professor in the program, he loves teaching students from teens in the dual credit program to adult learners who want to gain a new skill. Chris’s student, Elliott, already had a career in metal fabrication, but he wanted to learn more about welding and take his career to a new level. Elliott talks about his fascination with welding and his career goals, which include travel, working in aerospace, and creating art.
