Dave Lotz presents, a comprehensive look into the history and operation of CB&Q’s fourth lightweight shovelnose Zephyr, Mark Twain Zephyr.

The Zephyr fleet was originally designed, and built, for specific routes to eliminate the need for steam power and heavyweight equipment. “Other CB&Q Zephyrs” set speed records, but the Mark Twain never got to stretch its legs on its regular assignment, providing daily connections to and from the Burlington’s Chicago Denver Aristocrat from St. Louis.
