Needham Channel coverage of the Needham Select Board meeting held at Town Hall on July 21, 2026.

The Needham Select Board met on July 21st with several items on the agenda. Most notably, there was a Pollard Middle School Project Update which was a joint discussion with the Needham School Committee. The reason for this discussion was because the planned geothermal wells at Warner Field in the Project’s Schematic Design, may trigger Article 97 of the Amendments to the Massachusetts Constitution. School Committee Members also jointly met for an update on the Information Technology. Members from the Needham Historic District Commission presented to the Select Board regarding a proposed Local Historic District at 178 South Street. The Assistant Director of Public Health in the Needham Public Health Division also presented on the launch of their first ever Community Health Survey. The Town Engineer also briefly discussed the Stormwater By-Law Regulations before the Board voted to approve and adopt them. The Deputy Town Manager / Director of Finance discussed the Set Recycling and Transfer Station User Charges and Fees with Select Board Members after holding a Public Hearing on the matter at their previous meeting. The Board voted to recommend the changes that had been presented to them. The Town Manager had several important items to discuss and present with the Select Board including a Jurisdiction Update on the Stephen Palmer Building, a Preliminary Discussion of Meeting Articles for the Special Town Meeting in October, Project-Based Committees, the Appointment Policy, and the Vacancy in the Park & Recreation Commission. At the beginning of the meeting, several residents spoke during the Public Comment Period. There was also a Proclamation for the Purple Heart Day of 2026, a Public Hearing for a Grant of Location at 132 Lincoln Street, and an application for an Amendment to an All-Alcohol Innholders License for the Residence Inn by Marriot. Select Board Members ended the meeting with Committee Reappointments as well as sharing their Committee Reports before Adjourning.
