History of Parks and Environmentalism
Updated 2 days ago

South Portland Public Library - History of Parks and Environmentalism - February 20 2025

Come to the SPPL Main Library on Thursday, February 20th at 6:30pm for the next presentation of our Wildlife & Ecology Lecture Series with Park Ranger Sydney Raftery: The History of Parks and Environmentalism. The South Portland Parks department manages over 350 acres of parks, trails, recreational facilities and coastline. But where did all this land come from? How did people decide to start protecting it? And what is it used for? In this discussion we will take a look into the past to see where parks got their start and how environmentalism came about.
