In this illustrated program, Northeastern University Professor Kabria Baumgartner will discuss her book, In Pursuit of Knowledge, in which she explores the history of school desegregation in the nineteenth century Northeast by focusing on the educational experiences of African American girls and women. Her book is the winner of the 2020 Mary Kelley Book Prize from the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic and the 2020 Outstanding Book Award from the History of Education Society. This program is co-sponsored by the Exeter Public Library.
