Rooted In Aiken Episode 2: Explaining the Public-Private Partnership
Updated 4 months ago

Rooted In Aiken series delves into the stories and maintenance of Aiken's cherished trees, with the valuable contributions of Dacre Stoker, Executive Director of Aiken Streetscapes, Aaron Campbell, The City of Aiken Arborist/Horticulturist.

Downtown Aiken, in particular, the well known and visually pleasing South boundary corridor, including the surrounding neighborhoods were not always covered in mature stately trees, it was open farmland.  A variety of Oaks, pines, magnolias and cedars were planted in the early 1900’s with the arrival of the Winter colony.  They built lovely homes, and then of course power lines along the roadways appeared, and in a nutshell, years later once the urban trees matured, they began to suffer the stresses of residential development. In this episode of rooted in aiken we will explore the public private partnership in place to ensure the maintenance of Aiken’s Grand trees.
