For thousands of families across Kalamazoo County, putting food on the table isn't a guarantee—it's a daily challenge. One in six people in the county experiences food insecurity, forcing many households to make impossible decisions between groceries and other necessities like housing, medication, or childcare. For more than four decades, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes has been working to ensure that no neighbor has to face hunger alone. Since 1982, the organization has provided food assistance with a focus on dignity, respect, and community support. Every day, donations from local residents, businesses, and volunteers help stock shelves, fill emergency food boxes, and provide meals for families who need them most. Fortunately, making a difference doesn't require a major commitment. There are three simple ways anyone can support the mission: donating food, volunteering time, or making a financial contribution. The fight against hunger is a shared effort, and every neighbor has the opportunity to be part of the solution. Together, our community is making an impact—one meal, one volunteer, and one donation at a time. This video made possible with support from Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
This program helps nonprofits tell stories that work for good — stories that educate, engage, and empower people to care, connect, and act.
