Piper's connection to Lake Michigan is profound. Her descriptions of her memories of the time spent by the water are visceral and clearly connected to her concerns about climate change. As a school teacher, climate change in our everyday observations needs to be talked about to try and ensure her students can have the childhood memories she has.
