Local Stories - Disability Network: #DWord Bookclub
Updated 8 days ago

In 'The D Word Book Club: Celebrating Disability in Literature,' the Kalamazoo Public Library, in collaboration with the Disability Network, hosts a unique book club that focuses on the positive representation of people with disabilities in literature. This episode features a vibrant discussion on the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities, highlighting their contributions to society without the need for a 'fix' or 'cure.' The club, the only one of its kind in southwest Michigan, aims to foster a safe space for community members to share personal experiences and engage with the narratives found in both fiction and nonfiction books. Participants are encouraged to grow, learn, and promote disability pride and inclusion. The meeting is held quarterly at the Kalamazoo Public Library's Central location.
